Appalachian Trail II Motorcade
09/08/2015 - 10/03/2015
Small towns with big surprises await you beginning in Dahlonega, GA, close to where the Appalachian Trail begins in Springer Mountain.
The trail is accessible from the Amicalola Falls State Park Visitors Center as well as the picturesque falls themselves.
Dahlonega was the site of the first gold rush and is home to a gold mine, gold history attractions and gold metal wineries. The story is that the moonshiners have gotten into making wine and are quite successful at it! As the trail heads north there will be many golden nuggets along the way for discovering. As we follow the Appalachian mountain range we will take in the Great Smoky Mountains in NC and TN as well as the Blue Ridge Mountains on into VA.
You’ll be treated to southern hospitality and beautiful mountain scenery in the Maggie Valley area.
216 The Cherokee Indians invite you to experience their traditional dwellings, dances and interact with the villagers as they hull canoes, weave baskets and fashion beadwork.
The Natural Bridge is quite a site to see as well as the interesting. caverns.
Just north of the Trail Lexington, VA is seeped in history and home to Stonewall Jackson’s house, the Lee Chapel and museum, and the Virginia Museum of the Civil War. It passes near Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello home and James and Dolly Madison’s mansion.
Whether it’s unique caverns, Civil war history, breath taking mountain views or the Foretravel camaraderie, you’ll want to join us on the Appalachian Trail motorcade.
